Investigating pressure development mechanisms in sugar maple

December 9, 2024

As we come to the end of the Tree Syrup Aotearoa research contract, we asked landowner partners and our research team to provide a short summary of their experiences and learnings.

Here Dr Jamie Robinson from the research team explains the anatomy of sugar maple trees and how temperature and pressure changes drive the flow of sap within the tree. In the video, Jamie then summarises how the research team used different imaging techniques to examine plant anatomy and to examine if the experiment results support the hypothesised mechanisms for pressure development.
